Ontario Launching New Services to Help Small Businesses Grow

Service Will Deliver Support Online, In-person and Over the Phone

Ontario is launching new services to help small business owners access tools, resources and funding to start and grow their business.

Jeff Leal, Minister Responsible for Small Business, joined Rocco Rossi, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, to make the announcement today in Toronto.

Small Business Access is a new, single point of access that will make it easier for small businesses to access government services to get the support they need to run and grow their business. Small business owners will be able to access resources such as hiring and training incentives for employers and information on permits or how to expand their business globally.

The government is also partnering with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce to deliver workshops across the province so small businesses have access to in-person support, information and advice to successfully run their business.

Supporting small businesses is part of Ontario’s plan to create fairness and opportunity during this period of rapid economic change. The plan includes a higher minimum wage and better working conditions, free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students, easier access to affordable child care, and free prescription drugs for everyone under 25 through the biggest expansion of medicare in a generation.

  • Small Business Access resources for small business owners are available online at or over the phone at 1-888-999-5970.
  • Ontario is investing $3.9 million over three years to support Small Business Access.
  • This is part of an investment of more than $500 million over three years in new initiatives for small businesses, including lowering the small business tax rate by 22 per cent from 4.5 per cent to 3.5 per cent, new financial supports to help small businesses hire youth, investments to revitalize downtown and main street business areas, and cutting red tape.
  • About one-third of Ontario workers are employed by small businesses.
  • Small businesses have fewer than 100 employees.
